The “Political Declaration on Responsible Military Use of Artificial Intelligence and Autonomy” was released by the US State department on Thursday, explaining their 12 best practices for the development and military use of Artificial Intelligence.

“We invite all states to join us in implementing international norms, as it pertains to military development and use of AI,” said US Under Secretary of State for Arms Control Bonnie Jenkins.

Thursday also saw over 60 countries sign a “call to action” to support the responsible military use of AI. The non-legally binding statement has some human rights experts concerned due to the document failing to address so called ‘slaughterbots’ that do not need human intervention to attack targets.
